THE VESSELS

We have two vessels operating our whale watch cruises, the 50 ft. Mega Nova and our new 42 ft. Cetacean Search. Both are certified passenger vessels which meet or exceed all Canadian Coast Guard safety standards. Both vessels are fitted with open viewing decks with seats, rails, bathroom facilities and shelter. Both are very seaworthy, stable craft and are comfortable on the open water.

The name Mega Nova was derived from the scientific name of the humpback whale Megaptera novaeangliae which translates to "Big Winged New Englander." The name is also Latin for big and new.

Our newest vessel, Cetacean Search has jet propulsion, giving her a cruising speed of 22 knots. Because of this speed, we can reach the whales much faster, allowing for more time spent observing them. Jet propulsion also means there are no propellers to be in harm's way. This vessel also serves as our research vessel as the name implies.

THE CREW

Each cruise benefits from experienced, well trained and friendly personnel with Marine Emergency Duty and First Aid Certificates. The cruises are piloted by professional, licensed captains, including Harold Graham who has over 43 years experience navigating the waters of the Bay of Fundy and 21 years experience working with whales.

Professional guides and researchers make each cruise informative and educational. The cruises are fully narrated by experienced naturalists including Shelley Barnaby who has over 16 years experience researching whales. Also employed are local naturalist, Biology graduates and students of Marine Biology. We also welcome volunteers from around the globe.
