Marine Mammal Study - Brier Island, Westport. Nova Scotia, Canada

Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises is dedicated to the study of the unique animals and seabirds that inhabit the Bay of Fundy. Portion of fees helps to fund our ongoing research. We encourage and enjoy people to ask us about our efforts. Since 1984,  its researchers and naturalists have contributed to the study of these inhabitants.

During each cruise, our team of naturalists and researchers are involved in data collection and photographing of all species of whales and seabirds. All information that is collected during each field season is then compiled and made available to various research organizations around the world.

Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises, working together with these organizations, is working towards the maintenance of this critical habitat, and to provide education and public awareness. Here are links to some of these organizations:

ABOUT US

In 1984, Harold Graham and other researchers began investigating reports of frequent sightings of Cetaceans around Brier Island. They found that the waters were ideally suited to studying Cetaceans in the wild. In 1986, the public was invited to join the cruise, assisting in funding the project and creating public awareness of these magnificent marine mammals.

In 1987, Harold Graham received a Certificate of Merit at the Nova Scotia Environmental awards in appreciation of outstanding service in the protection of the environment. In 1988, Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises became a limited company and continues to lead research and education cruises in the Bay of Fundy. It remains Nova Scotia's premier whale watching organization.
